The first superbike practice session of the weekend got underway at Silverstone this afternoon.
Despite the session running on a “green” track, all of the riders soon got up to speed, with several going under the existing lap record; the top 19 riders, including Tom, were covered by 0.797s, proving how close the racing will be.
Tom worked on the initial setup for the weekend, returning to the pit box twice during FP1. By the end of the 45-minute session, Tom was in 18th position, but only 0.7s off of the provisional pole position.
Tom had this to say following FP1, “We had a good day, and we’ve changed quite a few bits on the bike. We made some adjustments to the gearing and now have a pretty good base setting with the Kawasaki ZX10-RR.
We stayed on the same tyre for most of the session, but threw in some new rubber just before the end and found a bit of time.
We have some things to change tonight to try in FP2 in the morning. The bike is feeling good, and I reckon we can move up the order ahead of qualifying.”
